That was a good night 🙂
Tonight was Derinda’s 50th birthday party at The Beeches in Isleham. This was a new venue for me (it hasn’t been there for very long), and I’m back there in a couple of weeks’ time for a wedding as well.
So, back to the party. As I’ve already said, a brilliant night.
From my side of things, the stage has literally acres of space (it’s huge!), there’s plenty of electrical sockets, there’s ambient lighting so I can see what I’m doing without affecting the lighting effects going out into the hall….what’s not to like?
Oh yes….being on a high stage the heat from the hall travels straight up at me 🙁 (glad I always carry a fan with me).
We started the evening with some gentle background music from the 80s and 90s (Derinda being of that era) whilst her guests arrived, settled in and later enjoyed the buffet. So far, so good.
Unbeknown to Derinda though, her daughter Megan was planning a surprise cake. Not a problem – it’s something I help to facilitate on many occasions. Megan was nervous though. Let me go back to a phone call I had with her a couple of days before the party…..
“I’m going to bring in a surprise cake. Can you make everyone sing happy birthday? Is that the sort of thing you can do?”
Of course I can! Not only that, I can make it a spotlight moment.
So, after helping Megan to put the candles onto the cake in the corridor, I brought up the lighting on the disco, asked Derinda to join me in the middle of the dance floor and asked everyone to join me in a round of “happy birthday to you”. At this point, Megan brought out the cake and all went to plan (with a very relieved Megan).
Finally…it’s party time. As you’d expect from a young lady who’s just turned 50, the music was very much from the 80s and 90s, and quite a few of the classic cheesy numbers to boot.
In the words of Derinda herself, “The music you’ve played tonight has been spot-on!”. You can’t beat it when the birthday girl says that 🙂
I was blessed with a pretty much full dance floor for the entire evening…and that always makes me a happy DJ 🙂
So, happy birthday Derinda….I’m glad you enjoyed the evening.
It’s always great to be a part of a special occasion such as a milestone birthday, and to help with things like surprise cakes. Why not get in touch today to see how I can help to make your party memorable for all the right reasons?
